Independent film ‘The Pilliga Project’ set to launch this Friday in Redfern

The Pilliga Project’ film by Natalie Haddad is about the threat of Santos’s destructive Narrabri gas project to the Pilliga forest and Australia’s food and water. The gas project will have ripple effects across NSW and Australia, threatening our food and water supply. Protecting the forest will protect Australia’s water supply for generations.

During the hot summer of December-January 2020/21 humans from Extinction Rebellion traveled on multiple occasions to the Pilliga forest, attending events, tours and workshops in an effort to immerse themselves into understanding of the diverse, complex and multi-layered Pilliga campaign.

While Santos conducted their workover drilling program in the closed forest, consultation with Gomeroi/Gamilaaray Traditional Owners and familiarisation tours began. Citizen science workshops, long chats and interviews were held with people across the region and all was filmed by a committed group of people who were determined to do what they could to highlight the threat facing the forest. The crew from XR went above and beyond in the punishing 40° heat!

Finally, the time has come to reveal this work publicly. You can attend in person or sign up to see the film on your device wherever you are.

Hello my name is Karen Burge I’ve been sharing this video, there’s a lot of people wanting to know what we can do next, is there a gathering at at the Pilliga? and if so could you please give me the details..

I was at Bentley Bentley blockade and it was people power that stoped the gas, we need more people power out there now I feel and there is a huge group of novacastrians in newcastle.

Hi Karen, there is a cultural and music gathering coming up in October at Yarrie Lake, we are not directly involved but will be in attendance, we expect that there will be some information available shortly, have a look on the Pilliga Defenders Facebook page 🙂
