Electronic Public Hearing

Whitehaven Coal is seeking approval for the Vickery Extension Project, an open cut mine, 25km north of Gunnedah. The NSW Department of Planning’s final assessment says the project is “approvable.”

The Independent Planning Commission has 12 weeks to make a decision on the mine, making the deadline 12 August 2020.

To register to speak at this Electronic Public Hearing, you must complete an expression of interest form and return it via email to ipcn@ipcn.nsw.gov.au by 5pm AEST on Thursday 18 June 2020.

A studio in the Crossing Theatre in Narrabri will be an option for speakers to talk online to the commission. Speakers can be accompanied by a support person but there will be no public gallery. Those who are registered to speak will be provided further technical information closer to the hearing.

This Electronic Public Hearing will be broadcast on the IPC’s website. If you have no or limited internet access, you’ll be able to listen to a live audio stream of proceedings by dialing 1800 093 431 and entering the following PIN: 83635884#

Written submissions

The IPC will accept written comments on the Vickery Extension Project up to one week after the hearing via email, post or the IPC’s online portal. Written comments are weighed the same as spoken presentations.
