GasWatch is an initiative of North West Protection Advocacy (NWPA), an unincorporated community group which has operated since 2017 under the auspices of patron, Maria Rickert, the founder and owner of the Pilliga Pottery.

Over the past 7 years, NWPA has maintained an informative website, organised NSW and interstate tours for landowners and stakeholders to learn about the myth of gas industry co-existence with farming and healthy communities, developed a guided tour of the Pilliga Forest gas fields, made submissions to Governments and regulatory agencies and undertaken citizen science and gas field monitoring under the Gas Watch name.
